Harper

Future AI Founder

San Francisco, US Full-time

The Mission

Harper is building the first AI-native commercial insurance brokerage. We're not just trying to make humans 10x better; we are shifting the atomic unit of work from human judgement to systems. We believe this will remove inefficiencies, helping businesses around the country that need coverage and carriers who provide it.

Venture-backed by Y Combinator, our founding team brings experience from Coatue, Carlyle, Goldman Sachs, Tesla, Alloy, and Boston Consulting Group. We've achieved $5M in ARR in under a year, with over 3,000 active clients and 200+ new accounts every single day. We're building the team that will service over 10,000+ new customers per month by the end of next year.

To do this, we need to engage ~50,000 businesses monthly, and every one of those conversations is training data for the AI systems that will transform a $100B+ industry.

The Role: Future AI Founder

You're not joining to do a job. You're joining to build the systems that replace jobs. This is a 6-18 month intense marathon sprint that launches you into AI Operations Leadership, Product Management, Strategic Operations, or Business Intelligence roles. You're the human in the loop who executes, documents, and ultimately automates your way out of this job. That's not a threat, it's the point.

Most commercial insurance operates like it's 1999 - reactive, manual, and disconnected. Sales, service, and business development all rely on outdated processes that don't scale. There's no way to scale to 10,000+ customers monthly without doing this work manually first, then templatizing it, then automating it, then scaling it massively, all while maintaining quality, compliance, and consistency.

We're hiring Future AI Founders across three tracks. When you apply, we'll assess your experience, education, and strengths to place you in the track where you'll have the most impact. All three tracks share the same mission: understand the work deeply, document it systematically, template it completely, and influence the automation infrastructure that scales to 10,000+ customers monthly.

The Three Tracks

Business Development Track: The Front Line

You are the first human interaction every customer has with Harper. You're not just taking calls. You're the face of the company, the voice that shapes how thousands of businesses experience us, and the stakeholder that informs product and infrastructure decisions we make. Before we build the infrastructure that replaces it, we need to get entrenched to deeply understand how real businesses buy insurance.

Sales Development Track: The Revenue Engine

You're building the playbook that scales new business. Sales at a commercial insurance brokerage is complex: prospecting, quoting, carrier submissions, underwriting negotiations, relationship building, and closing deals. You are the operator who documents, templates, and designs the systems that will automate sales operations. You're not just closing deals. You're building playbooks, designing workflows, and creating the automation infrastructure that will replace manual sales work.

Customer Service Track: The Operational Engine

You're delivering for the customers who are our why. Commercial insurance service at a retail agency is complex: policy endorsements, coverage analysis, certificate management, claims coordination, carrier negotiations, compliance documentation, and relationship management. You are the analyst who documents, templates, and designs the systems that will automate customer operations. You're not processing requests. You're building knowledge bases, designing workflows, and creating the automation infrastructure that will replace manual work.

What You'll Do

Your specific responsibilities depend on your track assignment, but all Future AI Founders share core functions:

  • Analyze patterns across customer interactions to identify automation opportunities and inform product development
  • Design and test workflows that scale operations from current volume to 10,000+ customers monthly
  • Advise product, engineering, and operations teams on system improvements based on real customer insights
  • Develop protocols, training procedures, and operational infrastructure that make our systems smarter and more efficient

  • Group lunches and dinners: We eat together at 6:30pm most nights

  • Meritocracy: Excel here → fast track to leadership roles.

The Progression

This is a 6-18 month intense marathon sprint that launches you into AI Operations Leadership, Product Management, Strategic Operations, or Business Intelligence roles.

Think less "insurance company" and more "elite team on a mission to transform a massive unsexy industry using AI."
