Services client families during funerals visitations, and interment. Assists with caring for the deceased in a respectful manner.
Job Responsibilities
Funerals and Visitations
- Provides support under the direction of the Funeral Director
- Placing caskets in chapels prior to visitations or funerals
- Arranging around caskets floral offerings, lights, pedestals, etc.
- Greeting and providing guidance to family members at various services
- Offering assistance to mourners as they enter or exit limousines
- Acting as a pallbearer, as needed
- Transporting flowers to hearses or limousines
- Cleaning and arranging funeral chapels
- Ensure that services run smoothly as planned
- May drive the hearse, limousine or other vehicle in the funeral procession or other funeral related activities
Removals and Transfers
- Assists licensed embalmers or apprentices with removals and transfers
Embalming and Associated Services
- Cares for deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks
- Embalming, including verifying identification of the deceased and obtaining authorization for embalming
- Restoring, dressing, styling hair and/or applying cosmetics
- Preparing cremated remains, including container selection, paperwork and identification procedures
- Adheres to all applicable professional, municipal, state/provincial and federal licensing authority regulations
- Promotes a safe work environment be being aware of and practicing universal precautions and adopting general principles of safe conduct
- Assists with maintenance of preparation room and the facility
- Receive caskets and other funeral home supplies
- Performs additional duties as assigned
EDUCATIONAL/Experience/MINIMUM Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or general equivalency degree (or diploma)
Experience
- Minimum 6 months experience
Certification/Licenses
- Must meet all licensing requirement in applicable state/province as required by law as prescribed by each state board
- Valid driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of computers and some software or willingness to learn
- High level of compassion and integrity
- Good communication skills
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to multi task and set priorities
Work CONDITIONS
Work Environment
- Work indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions
- Limited amount of local and/or multiple location traveling required
- Professional Dress is required when in contact with families.
Work Postures
- Frequent, continuous periods of time standing, up 6 hours per day
- Sitting continuously for many hours per day, up to 6 hours per day
- Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently
Physical Demands
- Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, includes paperwork, calculators, computers and phone usage
Work Hours
- Working beyond “standard” hours as the need arises
Compensation:
Salary: $30.00/Hr
