Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced tax professional to join our Tax team.  This individual will be responsible for assisting with the management, execution, and continuous improvement of the firm’s tax function, with a focus on our sponsored funds. This role serves as a subject matter expert for tax matters, particularly those impacting our sponsored funds, and provides strategic oversight across U.S. federal, state, local, and international tax compliance, reporting, and risk management.  The role reports to the head of our tax team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the tax function (including U.S. federal, state, local, and international tax matters) for our sponsored funds, which invest primarily in public equities and certain derivatives.
  • Establish and maintain strong governance, controls, and processes around fund tax compliance and reporting (e.g., Schedule K-1s, K-3s, PFIC QEF Statements, etc.).
  • Provide oversight of international tax matters affecting our funds, including non-U.S. dividend and withholding taxes, capital gain accruals and related filings/payments and identification and execution of dividend withholding tax reclaim opportunities.
  • Manage engagements with external tax service providers (tax advisors, prime brokers, custodians, fund administrators) and ensure tax deliverables are completed timely and accurately.
  • Utilize technologies to drive efficiencies, consistency, and accountability across the tax function and service providers.
  • Oversee FATCA and CRS compliance for our sponsored funds, including coordination with administrators and internal teams (e.g., Finance, Fund Operations, Investment Services, Client Services, etc.).
  • Support investor tax-related inquiries, reporting requests, and due diligence questions.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and risk reduction across the tax function.

  • Is able to learn new technologies and implement into the tax function (e.g., automation programs, and advanced functionalities within the Microsoft Office Suite of applications)
  • Is intellectual curiosity and commitment to staying current on evolving tax laws, fund structures, and industry practices
  • Is independent, proactive, and collaborative working style with a strong sense of ownership

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in partnership tax with a strong focus on hedge funds, private funds or similar commingled investment vehicles
  • Advanced degree(s) in taxation/law (CPA, MST, JD, LLM, etc.) preferred but not required
  • Deep technical knowledge of Subchapter K, partnership tax allocations, financial products, and common book-to-tax adjustments relevant to equity portfolios
  • Experience handling questions on tax implications by providing thoughtfully researched responses and practical solutions, particularly when there is limited available guidance
  • Proven experience managing tax deliverables from fund administrators and external service providers
  • Prior experience overseeing a fund tax function or significant components thereof
  • Operate with the highest degree of integrity as the individual will handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Experience in the areas of individual, estate, and management company taxation is a plus (but not required)
  • Experience mentoring other team members and developing training opportunities for the team

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $260,000 per year.

The determination of a successful candidate’s base salary placement within the listed range will vary based on the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications (which may also include relevant certifications, credentials and other education), the job responsibilities and scope, the commensurate resulting level of the position and other relevant factors.
