Who we are looking for:
You will help train and develop a team of people, be responsible for the operations of the team and ensure the accuracy and successful delivery of services to Sydney, Australia. This will involve reviewing and resolving technical and operational issues before the delivery of products. You will be responsible for liaising with the RTS team to ensure their needs are satisfied and to discuss industry related and technical topics with them; in addition to ensuring a harmonious relationship between the two sites.
Why this role is important to us:
Located in Hangzhou, China the role involves creating and then leading a new team to provide regulatory services for the APAC region. Initially servicing our Australian office, there is a view to expand to include Hong Kong and Singapore in the future.
The Hangzhou team will have close links to the Australian Regulatory & Tax Services (RTS) team who ultimately performs the client interactions role. The main deliverables will be to produce Financial Statements as well as other Australian regulatory products including BAS, ABS, ASX and APRA returns.
What you will be responsible for:
Client Service
Understand client needs and deliver customer innovative solutions
Adopt a pro-active role in establishing State Street as a key component for client success
Build trusting relationships with clients
Respond promptly to client queries
Constantly review client utilisation of deliverables to eliminate unnecessary services provided and ensure appropriate technical application
Technical
Deal with regulatory issues within the financial services industry
Consult on regulatory issues to business unit managers
Impart regulatory knowledge to staff within the team
Update Regulatory policies in line with legislative changes and industry practice
Operational and staff management
Through your planning ensure client deliverables are completed accurately and on time
Seek ways of improving operations within the team
Lead and manage a team of people – both direct and indirect reports – “Lead by example”
Completion of employee appraisals for direct reports, including the setting of goals and objectives
Promote and support initiatives within the team, other Product Groups and State Street areas
Provide appropriate training and coaching to team members
Financial Management
Increase efficiencies and reduce direct costs for existing clients
Manage resources and ensure appropriate delegation of tasks to team members
Risk and Compliance
Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and relevant regulatory requirements
Ensure all information in operational databases is accurate and current at all times, including client and fund specifics
Responsible for the ongoing review of current operating procedures to eliminate duplication of effort, detect major areas of risk and implement best practice recommendations
Ensure all products and services have adequate and appropriate audit supervision and control
Ensure internal and external audit findings are actioned in a timely manner with no recurring findings
Contribute to management reporting, including key performance and risk indicators
What we value:
Strong accounting standards knowledge and its application to investment funds, including the ability to answer client and external auditor/advisor’s queries with minimal assistance
Essential – IFRS experience and knowledge
Highly regarded but not essential Australian accounting standards - AASB3, AASB101, AASB124, AASB7, AAS25
Strong time management and communication skills
Ability to work under pressure to meet varying deadlines and work volumes
Strong management skills and the ability to work in a team environment
Strong project management skills or experience
Confident in making decisions autonomously and taking initiative
Education & Preferred Qualifications:
Regulatory experience – in particular investment trusts and superannuation funds
Minimum five years of work experience in accounting, legal, financial markets, custody or other relevant work area
Near completion/completed CPA or CA or other relevant qualification
