Gurgaon Full time

About Gartner IT

Join a world-class team of skilled engineers who build creative digital solutions to support our colleagues and clients. We make a broad organizational impact by delivering cutting-edge technology solutions that power Gartner. Gartner IT values its culture of nonstop innovation, an outcome-driven approach to success, and the notion that great ideas can come from anyone on the team.

About the Role

Gartner is seeking a high-energy Software Engineering Manager to lead our Client Experience & Platform Team. This role is designed for a versatile technical leader who thrives at the intersection of robust systems engineering and high-performance user interfaces. You will lead a high-impact pod of engineers dedicated to building the full-stack infrastructure and integrated experiences that serve as the primary gateway to our AI and Search insights.

You are a leader who prioritizes end-to-end ownership, ensuring that every layer of the stack—from data retrieval to the final pixel—is architecturally sound, scalable, and optimized for a global client base. You bridge the gap between complex system design and intuitive delivery, ensuring technical excellence across the entire lifecycle.

What You’ll Do

  • Team Leadership & Accountability: Lead a team of 5–8 developers, fostering a culture of high ownership and professional growth. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and performance of the team, maintaining a high bar for code quality across frontend / backend domains.
  • Full-Stack Delivery: Oversee the execution of cross-functional projects, ensuring seamless integration between sophisticated data sources (AI/Search) and the client-facing interfaces that surface them.
  • System Architecture & Governance: Lead architectural deep-dives and code reviews to ensure the team adheres to modern best practices. You will ensure that backend services are performant and that frontend implementations are resilient and accessible.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Work closely with Product, UX Design, and Data teams to define technical feasibility, break down complex requirements into executable sprints, and manage delivery timelines.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive the "Shift Left" strategy by implementing comprehensive automated testing (unit, integration, and UI), visual regression suites, and robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strategic Alignment: Translate the business roadmap into actionable technical tasks, ensuring the team is focused on high-impact features that improve the overall client experience and system reliability.

What You’ll Need

Must Have:

  • Experience: 7–8+ years of total experience in Software Engineering, with at least 1–2 years in a formal Engineering Management or Team Lead role with direct people-management responsibilities.
  • Cloud Expertise: Hands-on experience with Cloud environments (AWS or Azure) and containerization technologies. You should be comfortable managing cloud-native services and ensuring scalable, secure deployments.
  • Technical Proficiency: A strong background in building complex, data-rich applications with proficiency in backend systems (APIs, services, and data layers) and a deep awareness of modern frontend frameworks and system design.
  • Architectural Fluency: Proven experience designing and consuming scalable REST or GraphQL APIs while understanding how those designs impact client-side state management and performance.
  • Communication & Influence: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making across product and design teams.
  • Managerial Foundations: A track record of driving accountability, handling performance reviews, and providing technical mentorship within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Ownership Mindset: A proactive approach to problem-solving and "owning" the production health of the entire stack, from service stability to user-facing performance.
  • Process Mindset: Expert familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and a track record of improving team velocity and deployment frequency through better engineering practices.

Nice to Have / Opportunity to Learn:

  • Experience with Search-driven applications (Solr, OpenSearch) or AI-powered dashboards.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, micro-frontend architectures, or managing shared component libraries.
  • Exposure to server-side rendering (SSR) techniques and modern observability tools.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right candidate for this, or other roles.
