What if we can help our engineering teams to orchestrate the infrastructure of their applications faster, easier and more secure? That was the mission we set out when we envisioned the Productized Building Blocks. Based on CDK Constructs we have created higher-level abstractions to wrap the AWS primitives with more sensible defaults, security settings and standards for engineering at Nationale Nederlanden.
In the past year the Productized Building Blocks have been created and are now generally available for all new (greenfield) software development in Nationale Nederlanden that deploys towards AWS.
Within NN Bank we are aiming to have all greenfield software utilize the Productized Building Blocks from 2026 onwards. To also have existing solutions reach the new higher security standards we want to help the teams to adopt the productized building blocks and migrate their existing brownfield software solutions. For this we are creating a virtual team within the Technology and Transformation (T&T) department and we need your help.
This is a freelance assignment until the end of the year.
What you are going to do
Your mission is multi-fold:
Identify and prioritized the teams and applications that are eligible for adoption of the productized building blocks together with the Manager Platforms at T&T
Reach out and collaborate with the teams to determine the best approach to migrate their application onto the productized building blocks
Build experience on usage and migration strategies with the Productized Building Blocks to share with all teams that are to adopt them
Lead the migration efforts together with the team by bringing the knowledge of the Productized Building Blocks and have the team support you with the knowledge of their application and how they approached Infrastructure as Code
Ensure that at the end of 2026 all teams and applications that are eligible for adoption of the Productized Building Blocks be migrated
What we offer you
Our people are the driving force behind our organisation. We value the knowledge and expertise you bring. We believe that your temporary commitment can take our organization to a higher level. We offer you:
Competitive hourly rate depending on your knowledge and experience
As assignment until 31-12-2026
Hybrid way of working, partly from home and partly from the office in the Hague
International working environment with loads of knowledge sharing
Who you are
You are a clear and effective communicator, especially important in a remote environment where crystal‑clear articulation of needs, blockers and questions ensures the team can work efficiently towards its shared goals. You work in an open, proactive and curious manner, which is essential given that you will collaborate with many colleagues across different departments while helping teams adopt the Productised Building Blocks.
You are not expected to be a superhero — instead, you are a genuine team player. While your expertise matters, the collective outcome is what counts most. You listen actively, support the team and help guide them through transitions. You handle changes to infrastructure with care and precision, understanding the potential impact on production environments and the importance of preventing outages.
Furthermore, you have/you are:
3–5+ years of experience in software development
Experience in (re)designing application infrastructure and architecture
Strong communicator with a good command of English (B2+)
Well-versed in the AWS ecosystem, including CloudFormation, CDK and the Serverless stack
Fluent in TypeScript, used for our Infrastructure as Code
Experience with operational tasks such as serverless environments, CI/CD pipelines, observability, configuration management and compliance
DevOps (CI/CD) expertise, with Azure DevOps as the primary platform
Understanding of the full software deployment lifecycle and the impact of changes to infrastructure code
CDK experience, specifically with CDK Level 2.5 constructs built on top of standard CDK components
Understanding of other Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (Terraform, Serverless Framework) is a strong plus, as teams may need support migrating their existing solutions to CDK and the Productised Building Blocks
Who you will work with
You will take part in the Productized Building Blocks Adoption Support team. This is a virtual team consisting of 6 engineers, primarily colleagues from the Madrid IT Hub and a few colleagues based in the Netherlands at NN Bank. You will work closely with software engineers, DevOps specialists, and security experts to deliver high‑quality, reliable solutions. The team reports to the Manager Platforms at T&T in collaboration with the Product Owner Platform Services within T&T.
