SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
The Veterinary Assistant supports the veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring quality veterinary care for all pets, advocates for pets, educates clients on all aspects of pet health, and ensures a safe and effective hospital environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
Act as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure the best quality pet care and to maximize productivity. Communicate with veterinarian, veterinary technicians and all other associates to maintain patient flow.
Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times. Includes preparing procedures, completing prep work, ensuring client/pet comfort, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed.
Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services and related topics.
Obtain relevant client information and maintain complete medical charts.
Ensure safety by using proper restraint, following protocols, and maintaining clean/organized treatment areas.
Assist with surgery as applicable.
Utilize technical skills fully within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines.
Mentor other paraprofessionals.
Perform other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Extended computer use required.
Must be comfortable working around various animals.

Requires dexterity, coordination, and visual acuity.
Exposure to animals that may bite/scratch and to medical hazards.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING

NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant certification or equivalent experience.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Must be able to perform required NAVTA skills.
Must be at least 18 for radiography duties.
Minimum one year of related experience; customer service preferred.

The pay range for this role is

$15.19 - $19.41 Hourly
