SLIMS is a platform that allows supervising all stages a laboratory sample follows to the final result. SLIMS captures information about the sample, requests for measurements, and follows its entire workflow through the lab, supervising manual operating procedures, automated instrument steps, and calculations until the final report. The focus of the SLIMS Store team is on providing configuration packages that provide our customers with solutions to reduce time in setting up SLIMS for their laboratory needs and additional functionality on top of the core SLIMS product. As a Full-Stack Java Developer joining the SLIMS R&D team, your focus will be on the front-end as well as the back-end of SLIMS modules. SLIMS is presently modernizing through a hybrid of modern Angular-based front-ends, in combination with an evolution of its legacy stack developed in Java, SpringBoot and SmartGWT.  You should therefore have competences in Java and Angular development.  

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Implement features and fix bugs with limited guidance
  • Interact with Application Engineers to understand customer needs, and with other Developers to design and implement new functionality
  • Understand the general SLIMS code base and be able to enhance and extend any part of it
  • Participate in code reviews of large features
  • This position is based in Ghent, Belgium with the flexibility to work on a hybrid model (3 days in office, 2 days at home) after the on-boarding period.
     

Qualifications

We are looking for motivated individuals with the following background:

University Degree in a field related to Computer Science and/or Software Engineering.
Strong hands-on experience with/competence in Java.
Full proficiency in English. Proficiency in Dutch and/or French would be a plus.
• Experience with IntelliJ, Jira, Git, SpringBoot and Angular

On a personal level, you possess great problem solving and analytical skills and you are eager to learn about new software technology, instruments, applications, and consumables. You have great communication and interpersonal skills to interact at various levels. You enjoy both working within a team and autonomously.
