Full Stack Data Engineer (Analytics + ETL + Reporting)

Manulife / John Hancock is seeking a highly skilled Full‑Stack Data Engineer (Analytics + ETL + Reporting) with expertise in turning curated data into actionable insights, automated feeds, and enterprise‑grade reports with hands-on experience on Informatica/ADF, data warehousing and data model design to join our Insurance Licensing & Compensation engineering team. The successful candidate will design, develop, enhance, and turning curated data into actionable insights, automated feeds, and enterprise‑grade reports. As a Full‑Stack Data Engineer – Reporting, Extracts & Feeds, you will work downstream of our established Gold Layer, transforming business‑ready data into reports, extracts, and secure feeds consumed across Finance, Distribution, Operations, and other enterprise functions.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid from nearest office (3 days in Office, 2 days from Home); Remote working arrangement is not available.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Build automated data extracts and feeds from curated Gold Layer models.

  • Develop formatted operational and regulatory reports (Power BI, Tableau, SAC, SSRS, Crystal Reports).

  • Design and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using ADF, Informatica or similar tools.

  • Create reliable outbound data delivery via SFTP, APIs, or managed file transfer platforms.

  • Implement data validation, reconciliation checks, and robust quality controls.

  • Maintain clear lineage from Gold Layer to downstream outputs with audit readiness.

  • Optimize extraction logic for performance and scalability.

  • Build and manage scheduling, monitoring, and alerting for production pipelines.

  • Work closely with Finance, Actuarial, Operations, and business partners to gather and translate reporting needs.

  • Document feeds, mappings, data definitions, and technical specifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 4+ years’ experience in data engineering, BI engineering, or analytics engineering.

  • Advanced SQL skills and strong understanding of 3NF and analytic modeling.

  • Hands‑on experience with ETL/ELT platforms (Informatica, ADF or similar).

  • Practical experience building formatted reports (Power BI/Tableau/SAC/SSRS/Crystal Reports).

  • Ability to generate and automate file‑based outputs (CSV, TSV, XML, JSON etc.).

  • Experience delivering feeds via SFTP, MFT, or API frameworks.

  • Strong data quality, validation, and reconciliation skills.

  • Good understanding of data warehousing and data model design

  • Familiarity with scheduling/orchestration tools (ADF, Airflow, Control‑M, Autosys).

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally with business teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred).

  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.

  • Familiarity with API gateways, REST APIs, and event‑driven patterns (Kafka/Event Hub).

  • Understanding of metadata management and data governance frameworks.

  • Background in insurance, or financial systems would be an asset.

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,100.00 CAD - $136,100.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
