Onsite: This role is categorized as Onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Michigan 5 days a week.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled Fuels and Emissions Lab Engineer/Analytical Chemist to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will apply your chemistry expertise to analyze materials and unknown compounds using advanced analytical chemistry methods and instrumentation, with a primary focus on fuels and emissions testing. This role includes performing quality control and routine chemical analysis along with new method development as required.  The chemist will utilize their creativity, experimental skills, and analytical abilities to carry out project assignments and document results in detail.

What You'll Do

  • Perform hands-on analysis of fuels and emissions samples using both standard and customized test methods.

  • Maintain instruments and ensure their functional readiness through preventive maintenance and diagnostics.

  • Write comprehensive reports detailing the results of the analysis.

  • Establish timelines, targets, and course of action for projects/assignments to meet the expectations of internal and external customers.

  • Adapt well to ambiguity and effectively managing change.

  • Consult with technical teams as an expert in chemical measurement.

  • Apply problem-solving skills to analyze, diagnose, and recommend/implement changes based on analytical lab test data.

  • Keep up to date with new product and test technology advancements.

  • Maintain adherence to GM safety practices.

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field

  • 2+ years of hands‑on analytical chemistry experience in a laboratory environment

  • Practical experience performing sample preparation and operating analytical instrumentation for characterization of chemical materials and complex mixtures

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field.

  • Experience with Liquid Chromatography, and/or Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Instrumentation for Hydrocarbon speciation

  • Familiarity with ASTM standards related to fuels testing. 

  • Experience supporting emissions or fuel‑economy programs through analysis of test samples, combustion data, or fuel property characterization
