ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION: The Certified Natural Gas (CNG) Operation and Maintenance certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.

The Installation, Maintenance, and Repair of High-Pressure Stainless Piping certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.

The Forklift and Scissor Lift certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.

**All training for certifications listed above will be provided and required within 12 months of hire and as a condition of passing probation and must be maintained throughout the employment of this position.**

ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Fuel System Specialist position at City of Tucson’s General Services Department conducts inspections and performs preventative maintenance and monitoring of liquid fuel stations, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) processing facilities, and related equipment. This position maintains a record of fuel systems maintenance activities and communicates with vendors, contractors, federal, and local regulators, and other city departments to coordinate repairs, installations, and diagnostic work.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Plumbing & Fuel Systems Supervisor.  This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of preventative maintenance tasks for fuel, oil, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and air related equipment. Performs routine inspections of fuel systems and equipment and logs outcomes. Monitors CNG equipment and runs diagnostics to identify system points of failure. Manages inspections and preventative maintenance schedules to ensure compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and to qualify for Federal Transportation Authority (FTA) grants. Follows safety policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, local and City of Tucson requirements.

  • Inspects, repairs, and replaces parts and components to City of Tucson equipment relating to liquid fuels, oils, CNG, air compressors, valves, controls, fuel hoses, fuel nozzles, card readers, and related equipment. Performs troubleshooting and service repairs on mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic equipment.

  • Places orders and purchases materials for replacements and repairs of assets of assigned projects. Maintains records, reports, and inventory by updating and reviewing daily maintenance and delivery reports, downloading meter readings, and reconciling fuel usage. Reconciles procurement card invoice purchases, enters labor charges, and other related data in multiple Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Responds to inquiries via phone calls, emails, and in-person site visits concerning maintenance tasks and projects.

  • Attends City of Tucson, safety, department and unit meetings, and other required training related to the safe use of tools and equipment. Optimizes productivity by maintaining the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles, keeps workspaces organized, and inspects the condition of tool inventory.

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. 

Working Conditions

Work schedule may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call. 

Often works under the following conditions: exposure to physical, ergonomic, or hazardous environment, which includes but not limited to dirt, grime, chemical, loud noise, and unfavorable odors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 6 months post high school
Experience: Three (3) years of directly related experience
Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

License/Certifications: Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with and training in compressors, fuels, and Swagelok stainless steel piping.
