Team: Structures - Internal Flow & Data Analytics
Background:
Fuel Systems team is a part of the ‘Internal Flow & Data Analytics’ group under the Structures department and plays a key role providing solutions through competencies in the area of Thermal and Internal Flow analysis.
The job holder is a technical role for the assessment of fuel and additive chemistries with the support of a small Fuel Sciences team. The intent would be that the person taking this role be supporting airworthiness of our fleet. This involves demonstrating sufficient technical experience and knowledge of the processes in the Fuel Systems department.
If successful, you will experience new fuels and technology on the cutting edge of feasibility; including Sustainable Aviation Fuels and the steps we will take to prepare our hydrogen research and development by the end of this decade. You will also experience our conventional kerosene fuel and additive activities, including evaluation of changes to fuel specifications, reviewing research reports of new fuel additives, and continued airworthiness activities.
Role: Support all Fuel Sciences & Engineering activities
Technical Skills
Direct experience managing the ASTM D4054 standardized evaluation process for the qualification of new fuels and fuel additives.
Expert knowledge of global fuel specifications including ASTM D1655 (Jet A/A-1), ASTM D7566 (SAF), and Def Stan 91-091.
Should have knowledge on Fuel System Engineers on topics relevant to fuel properties e.g.
Properties affecting the gravity ceiling for different fuels
Defining the 'Worst-Case' test fluid formulations to ensure aerodynamic and fuel system performance margins are validated under extreme density/viscosity scenarios.
What fuel properties are important to include in an interface document with the Engine Producer
Effect of fuel properties on microbiological contamination formation
Understand the differences between all common fuel specifications and where/when these would be used. Understand how the fuel properties would establish its use and how the composition may influence the use of this fuel in Airbus Aircraft.
Work with Fuel Systems department equipment specialists to produce data packs for the clearance of ATA28 equipment for use with the new fuel additive.
Keep abreast of new developments in Aviation Fuels and Fuel additives
Support the Domain with any fuel property related questions
Support our airline customers via the Fuel Systems Reactive Support team, particularly with questions concerning microbiological contamination and fuel contamination issues
Develop an understanding how changing a fuel property may improve the use of that fuel somewhere around the world

Qualification: Completed Bachelors or Masters degree in Petroleum, Chemical, or other related streams with minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience. Degree, or equivalent, in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering would be an acceptable alternative
