Front Desk Assistant (Student Wage)

Charlottesville, VA Part time

The Housing & Residence Life Office seeks responsible, organized individuals to serve as office assistants.  The students in this role would serve at the Housing & Residence Life office in Gibbons House.  Primary responsibilities include basic administrative duties and supporting the different divisions of Housing & Residence Life and Conferences@UVa.  Great customer service skills, over a variety of communication methods, are important.   

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission of Housing & Residence Life and Conferences@UVa including knowledge of its programs and services.
  • UVA undergraduate or graduate student in good standing throughout employment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and professional work habits.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people including students, parents, faculty, administrators, and alumni.
  • Demonstrated record of flexibility, responsibility, and willingness to assist others.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and various database and software programs.
  • Ability to work autonomously and take initiative on projects.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to phone calls and e-mail inquiries from housing residents, conference customers, students, and families in a timely fashion.  When necessary direct these questions to the appropriate office or person.
  • Greet visitors, sign for packages, distribute keys and other items.
  • Provide additional administrative assistance when requested.
  • Help Housing & Residence Life and Conferences@UVA staff with projects and assist with the online registration systems and wait lists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The hourly wage is $13.00/hour.

  • Education: Current full time undergrad or graduate UVA student in good standing

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers and phones.
