Freight Analyst

US-TN-Memphis Full time

Job Description

We are seeking a highly analytical and proactive Freight Analyst to join our logistics team in Memphis, TN OR Cedar Creek, TX (This is NOT a remote position). This role plays a critical part in driving cost-effective freight solutions through data analysis, rate benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work cross-functionally with operations, logistics service providers, and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient transportation planning, route maintenance, and budget adherence.

Advanced Transportation Analytics & Strategy

  • Perform advanced quantitative analysis on large freight and transportation data sets to identify cost-saving and optimization opportunities.

  • Analyze and benchmark transportation carrier freight rates across multiple shipping modes (LTL, FTL, parcel, intermodal, ocean, air).

  • Develop financial models and business cases to support carrier sourcing decisions, RFP events, and contract negotiations.

  • Forecast, manage, and monitor freight budgets; proactively identify risks, cost drivers, and trends.

  • Translate complex data into clear insights and executive-ready reporting to influence transportation strategy.

Systems & Data Management

  • Maintain and optimize SAP transportation routes, condition tables, and master data (e.g., PWeaver or equivalent).

  • Leverage advanced Excel (Power Query, Pivot Tables, advanced formulas), Power BI, and other analytical tools to build dashboards and automated reporting solutions.

  • Generate KPI reporting for freight spend, carrier performance, and network efficiency.

  • Partner with Freight Audit & Pay to resolve complex data discrepancies and systemic issues.

Continuous Improvement & Project Leadership

  • Lead and support cross-functional transportation optimization projects.

  • Identify process gaps through data analysis and recommend scalable solutions.

  • Maintain awareness of transportation market trends, cost structures, and capacity dynamics to proactively guide decision-making.

  • Challenge the status quo with fact-based recommendations and measurable results.

Important Clarification

  • This role is not an operational or warehouse position. We are seeking a strategic, analytically advanced professional — not candidates whose primary experience is shipment execution, dispatching, forklift operation, or tactical transportation coordination.

  • Candidates without transportation experience may be considered only if they demonstrate exceptional analytical capability and relevant SAP experience.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Engineering, or related analytical discipline (required).

  • 4+ years of experience in transportation analytics, freight analysis, supply chain analytics, or related strategic analytical role.

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Excel (complex formulas, data modeling, pivot tables, large data manipulation).

  • Experience working with large data sets and performing advanced quantitative analysis.

  • Experience using SAP (transportation, logistics, or finance modules).

  • Proven ability to develop data-backed business cases and drive measurable logistics savings.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex analysis clearly to stakeholders at multiple levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or leading transportation RFPs and carrier sourcing initiatives.

  • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.

  • Strong understanding of transportation modes and freight cost structures.

  • Experience working in a global organization across multiple time zones.
