Foreperson – Nights (Asphalt Plant Operations)

Are you a hands-on leader with a strong focus on safety, quality, and performance? We are looking for an experienced Night Foreperson to take responsibility for the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of our asphalt plant during night shifts.
This is a key leadership role where your technical knowledge, organisational skills, and ability to motivate a team will directly impact production performance and safety standards.
Purpose of the Role
Your primary mission is to ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the asphalt plant. You will lead a team of competent operators, manage production outputs, and ensure materials are produced in line with Heidelberg Materials’ quality standards.
You will plan production based on customer demand and plant capability, oversee start-up and shut-down processes, and optimise throughput while maintaining strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure full compliance with the Company Health & Safety Policy, Manager’s Rules, and all relevant Risk Assessments and Method Statements
Lead, supervise, and motivate night shift teams to achieve safe and efficient production
Plan and manage daily and next-day production schedules
Operate, inspect, monitor, and maintain asphalt plant equipment within your competence
Carry out routine inspections and complete all daily plant inspection records accurately
Identify, report, and escalate defects or issues on static and mobile plant
Operate mobile plant equipment including Front-End Loaders and dumpers
Undertake maintenance work on static and mobile plant in line with manufacturer guidelines and Heidelberg Materials standards
Ensure plant and machinery are operated in an energy-efficient manner
Refuel, grease, and clean mobile plant as required
Complete near-miss reports and promote a proactive safety culture
Liaise closely with colleagues, the Unit Manager, suppliers, and contractors
Be flexible to work at other Heidelberg Materials sites within reasonable travelling distance, where required
Key Accountabilities
Continuous supervision of all activities to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of labour, materials, and plant
Delivery of safe, consistent, and high-quality production
Accurate record keeping in line with management and compliance requirements
Ongoing professional development through CPD, training courses, and seminars
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Strong knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental (SHE) requirements
Understanding of Quarry Regulations 1999 and site-specific safety rules
Knowledge of QA systems, materials, and asphalt production processes
Mechanical awareness with the ability to identify potential plant failures proactively
Experience in plant operation, maintenance, and process control
Confident operating both static and mobile plant equipment
Organised, self-motivated, and an effective communicator
Reliable with excellent timekeeping
Qualifications
Reasonable general level of education
NVQ Level 2 in Process Operations (or equivalent experience)
