What this role is all about:

We are looking for a Food Technologist II in La Crosse, WI.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, regular business hours

The Food Technologist II plays a key role in Product Innovation, leveraging advanced knowledge in product development, sample program management, technical services, and nutritional documentation. This role demands professional expertise, technical acumen, and comprehensive industry knowledge. 

Job Duties:

  • Lead product development, ingredient approvals, and technical services projects.
  • Collaborate with Sales Lead, Procurement, Operations and Quality teams to develop technical solutions for sales opportunities
  • Formulate advanced new products according to project requirements, ensuring compliance with food certifications and claims.
  • Communicate technical needs for new product development with departments such as Quality, Procurement, Operations, and Sales to ensure successful scale-up and handoffs.
  • Use applicable Product Innovation Formulation Software for new product formulations and export them into ConXus software.
  • Utilize the project management system for all aspects related to project leadership and management in Innovation.
  • Use the ERP system for ingredients and formula information.
  • Obtain necessary information and samples to initiate projects.
  • Order ingredients from approved vendors.
  • Manage digital documentation of critical criteria and changes using TechWizard or applicable system.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and references in ConXus, including batch formulas, data collected, and sensory evaluations.
  • Understand raw material and finished product documentation using a variety of systems
  • Participate in meetings, conference calls, pilot plant, and production trials as needed.
  • Assist in creating and shipping samples or prototypes as required.
  • Provide internal documents such as formulations, methods, and nutritional data.
  • Review Bill of Materials (BOM), product label proofs, or technical information for accuracy.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers and sales through calls or emails routed to Product Innovation.
  • Possess basic knowledge of processing techniques relevant to the role.
  • Understand nutritional science for creating product nutritional data from TechWizard, including NLEA formats, ingredient declarations, supplement facts, and amino acid profiles. (as needed in the role)

Qualifications:

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or Biological Science required.
  • Master’s Degree in Food Science or Biological Science preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in Food Science/Research and development required.
