Job Description:

Parsons has been a leader in the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure across the world for more than 75 years. We are seeking an Fluvial Geomorphologist to support and grow our Natural Sciences and Environmental Construction Services team in Ontario.
This role is ideal for a technically strong and entrepreneurial individual who can support ongoing fisheries, terrestrial, and environmental construction projects while helping to build Parsons’ in-house fluvial geomorphology capability.

You will have flexibility to work from the Greater Toronto Area or Southwestern Ontario offices, with hybrid work options. Willingness to travel to field sites across Ontario is expected. Our team is focused on helping provincial and municipal clients deliver infrastructure projects through innovative, practical, and environmentally responsible solutions.

Responsibilities

• Perform fluvial geomorphic assessments including channel morphology, stability analysis, erosion risk assessments, and sediment transport evaluations
• Conduct field investigations (e.g., channel surveys, bankfull characterization, substrate analysis, erosion/scour assessments)
• Support hydraulic and geomorphic inputs to culvert, bridge, and watercourse crossing design (e.g., fish passage, natural channel design, bank stabilization)
• Contribute to drainage and watercourse design in coordination with civil and hydrotechnical teams
• Support Fisheries Act permitting, DFO Requests for Review (RfR), and offsetting/compensation design
• Assist with erosion and sediment control (ESC) planning and inspection during construction
• Support environmental monitoring programs during construction (e.g., turbidity, flow isolation, watercourse crossings)
• Prepare technical reports including geomorphic assessments, erosion risk assessments, and input to Environmental Impact Studies (EIS) and Class EA documentation
• Liaise with clients, regulatory agencies (e.g., DFO, MNRF, Conservation Authorities), and internal design teams
• Assist in proposal preparation, cost estimating, and business development for fluvial and water resources work
• Support and mentor junior staff and technicians
• Contribute to the growth of Parsons’ fluvial geomorphology service line

Experience

• Demonstrated experience in fluvial geomorphology and watercourse assessment in Ontario
• Experience conducting channel stability assessments (e.g., Rosgen classification, regime theory, or similar approaches)
• Experience with erosion, sediment transport, and bank stability analysis
• Experience supporting watercourse crossing design (culverts, bridges, fish passage)
• Demonstrated experience with Fisheries Act permitting and DFO processes (RfR, Authorization)
• Experience working with Conservation Authorities and regulated areas (floodplain, erosion hazards)
• Experience supporting or conducting erosion and sediment control design and/or monitoring
• Experience working on infrastructure projects (transportation, municipal, or linear infrastructure)
• Experience in environmental monitoring during construction is considered an asset

Qualifications

• 5+ years of related experience
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fluvial Geomorphology, Hydrology, Civil/Water Resources Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or related field
• Eligibility for or designation as a P.Geo., P.Eng., or equivalent professional designation in Ontario
• Strong understanding of channel processes, hydraulics, and sediment dynamics
• Experience with field survey methods (e.g., total station, GPS, channel profiling)
• Proficiency with relevant software (e.g., ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, Civil 3D, or similar)
• Knowledge of ESC principles and best management practices
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams (engineering, fisheries, terrestrial ecology)
• Willingness and ability to travel to field sites and work in outdoor conditions

Salary Range: $26.44 - $50.48
