Job Summary

The Floor Technician, under immediate supervision, cleans and maintains floors, carpets and hard surfaces in facilities throughout the hospital/clinics as directed by supervisor. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but may differ among locations, depending on business necessities and industry requirements. The Floor Technician may also perform specific interior and exterior housekeeping cleaning duties to maintain a clean and aseptic environment including patient area cleaner, non-patient area cleaner, trash technician, special care unit cleaner, and/or others.

Essential Functions:
  • Buffs, polishes and strips floors using heavy equipment at a health care facility, office building, or similar building. Cleans and buffs hard surfaces. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, polishes floors and vacuums hallways, stairs and office space, etc. May perform advanced cleaning procedures for carpeted floor and carpet care. May clean furniture. Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and equipment, in order to prevent damage to finishes and fixtures. (30%)
  • May empty trash, linen, and garbage containers. May handle hazardous waste in accordance with government regulations, policies and procedures. (15%)
  • Transports and appropriately handles trash, recycling, medical waste, linen, and other items to each designated area and maintains waste areas within regulatory standards. (15%)
  • Performs routine operational maintenance of equipment per manufacturer specifications (10%)
  • Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. May wash walls. (10%)
  • Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications (10%)
  • May assist in training other employees (10%)

Education:
  • No High School Diploma and/or No GED Required

Work Experience:
  • 4-6 years 5 years of custodian experience in Health Care Required or
  • 4-6 years 5 years of experience at Denver Health with passing competencies Required

Licenses:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safety work environment. Knowledge of chemicals and equipment used to clean surface areas sufficient to be able to maintain a clean and orderly work area. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods.
    • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn occasional hazards and safety precautions. Skill in understanding and following oral, illustrated, written or demonstrated instructions. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work within Health Department standards.


    • Command of English strongly preferred. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
