Floor Maintenance Technician Assistant Supervisor

Job Summary: The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Senate Office Buildings. The Floor Maintenance Technician Assistant Supervisor assists with the supervision of Floor Maintenance Technicians. The Assistant Supervisory will also assist the supervisor in assigning duties and reviewing the work of subordinates, as well as planning schedules and coordinating work operations and solving problems related to the work performed by Floor Care Unit employees.

Major Duties:

  • Tour of Duty: 9:30pm - 6:00am The individual selected for this position will: Serve as a full assistant supervisor and plans use of subordinate workers' equipment, facilities and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Determine the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work and/or equipment failure, etc. Assign work to employees through subordinate supervisors and provides technical direction and/or assistance in accomplishing the work Redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work and/or equipment failure, etc. Observes work in progress, investigates work related problems (e.g., excessive costs, low productivity, workload imbalance and acquisition or development of specialized tools, etc.) and determines causes Recommend acquisition of specialized equipment and tools Establish or revises standard operating procedures for the work operation Determine training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsel employees on performance, sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinates' work performance Initiate proposals for formal disciplinary action as needed. Maintain production reports and records. Train Floor Maintenance Trainees and Helpers to perform tasks in floor and carpet care. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, including adjusting, cleaning, oiling and changing brushes, buffing pads and other items subject to wear. Determine the appropriate cleaning methods based on the type of floor or carpet and the nature of the stain. Perform periodic polishing, honing and grinding, as appropriate, of stone floor surfaces such as concrete, granite, terrazzo and marble. Responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Perform other related duties as assigned.
