The Float Pool Nurse (Inpatient nights) is the primary care coordinator of interdisciplinary patient care activities and is responsible for the management of patients throughout their continuum of care at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Responsible and accountable for high quality patient care through implementation of the nursing process including assessment of patient needs (physical, psychosocial, educational), design of a collaborative plan of care, implementation of the plan with appropriate delegation of tasks, coordination of team effort, and evaluation of patient progress towards outcomes. Acts as a patient/family advocate, she/he seeks opportunities to communicate and coordinate patient care activities throughout the continuum in collaboration with other members of the Health Care Team.

The Float Pool Nurse is clinically competent in various patient care categories, as defined by the Float Pool Guidelines, and is assigned to the clinical areas based upon the needs of the institution for that day. The Float Pool Nurse will receive a differential, based upon the clinical competency track as defined by the Float Pool Guidelines, given their flexibility and competence to rotate throughout the institution.

The Float Pool Nurse is required to work a minimum number of weekends and holidays as directed by the Float Pool Guidelines. This position is for Inpatient nights (7pm-7am). The candidate selected will be required to work at least 12 hours a pay period.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

• Bachelor's of Nursing required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), required. Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, preferred.

Minimum Experience:

• No prior experience required.
• For Internal St Jude employees only: Will consider Associate degree on career path to BSN; BSN required within 3 years.
• Basic pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
• Familiarity with research protocols, preferred.
• Strong clinical nursing, interpersonal and patient education skills.
• Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
• Knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
• Ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient’s status.
• Proven performance in earlier role.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

• (LC: RN-TN) Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
• (LC: RN-ARK or RN-MISS) Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

• Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred.
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $31.50 - $55.00 per hour for the role of Float Pool Nurse-Supp.
