Job Description
Peterson Cat has a need for a Fleet Specialist at our San Leandro, CA location.
SUMMARY
The Fleet Specialist is responsible for the technical research, design, and definition of requirements for fleet vehicles and related equipment to meet operational needs while minimizing total cost of ownership. This role serves as a key liaison between fleet vehicle user departments throughout Peterson, purchasing agents, and manufacturers, ensuring that acquired assets are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Prepare specifications and recommend the purchase of fleet vehicle assets including service trucks, vans, automobiles, and related equipment.
Administer fleet asset purchases; process invoices and approve payments to vendors while monitoring for alignment with fleet asset purchase budget.
Coordinate the in-servicing of new fleet assets from time of order to actual in-service date.
Coordinate the decommissioning and disposition of fleet assets.
Perform on-site physical inspections of new fleet vehicles and related equipment to ensure compliance with specifications.
Negotiate and administer vendor contracts related to fleet assets.
Enter data for new assets into fleet information management system.
Provide technical advice, prepare reports, and coordinate staff meetings to develop specifications for new fleet vehicles and equipment.
Review reports from internal and external sources; analyze maintenance, repair, and modification costs and user evaluations.
Assist Corporate Fleet Manager with preparing the fleet asset purchase budget.
Assist with the preparation of long-range forecasting and special studies related to fleet assets in coordination with user departments.
Travel up to 40% of the time to Peterson locations in California and Oregon to perform on-site inspections of fleet assets, visit branch locations, and meet with fleet vehicle user departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university in Business Administration, Economics, or related field; and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in fleet management, heavy equipment maintenance, and/or asset procurement, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Prior experience with fleet information management systems and Microsoft excel required.
Thorough understanding of commercial fleet operations, upfitting needs, maintenance and repair processes, and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of:
Vehicle mechanics, drive-train configurations, and heavy equipment systems.
State-of-the-art technological developments and sources of information in the field of fleet operations, repair, and maintenance.
Practices and methods of procurement and contract administration.
Budget development and administration.
Ability to solve problems and develop solutions with minimal assistance.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
The pay range for this position is: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 (Starting wage will depend on experience and education. We also offer a total compensation package in addition to base salary.)
