Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Fleet Shop Assistant to join our Fleet team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Fleet Shop Assistant do for us?

This position performs cleaning, sanding, and preparing transformers for painting in our Transformer Shop. They will also be required to help in other areas of the shop as directed by the Trans Test Leader

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Safe and proper use of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, including sanders, drills, saws, grinders, Forklift, basic maintenance of such tools and equipment
  • Sanding and painting process
  • Proper handling and disposal of applicable hazardous materials and waste materials such as batteries, air filters, and used oils
  • Safety data sheets (SDS)

Preferred:

  • Machine shop tools and cleaning procedures

Skills in:

  • Communication, teamwork, and safety focus
  • Use of computers including utilizing Microsoft products and time-entry software

Ability to:

  • Use tools safely and correctly with little or no supervision
  • Work as a team member when required and independently when required, making sound and rational decisions to facilitate necessary maintenance procedures


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED

Experience:

  • 1 year of experience in custodial, material handling, auto body and paint, or related experience

Preferred:

  • Experience in a Fleet or Fabrication shop
  • Experience in auto body and painting techniques
  • Experience in an industrial environment performing auto body or other metal prep and painting work

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Forklift certification required within 60 days of hire
  • Respirator fit tested within 30 days of hire

Preferred:

  • Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card
  • First Aid/CPR card


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position consists of positioning (push/pull force of 120 lbs.) and using tools to scrape, grind, sand, and wash transformer units to prepare them for painting. Painting is done with a triggered spray gun. A bucket of soap (up to 62.5 lbs.) must be lifted and carried to the washroom. Occasionally an aerial lift is used to work up to 40 feet in the air. A ladder will also be occasionally lifted/carried for other various tasks. Responsible for general housekeeping and cleaning of the shop and outside work areas. Must be able to operate a forklift. A respirator and PPE will be used at times. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Job is performed 20% of the time outdoors.

This position requires the use of a respirator and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Successful candidates must be fit-tested for the respirator, successfully complete respirator training, and be physically able to use a respirator while working. Job is performed outdoors on occasion.

Temporary employees are eligible to apply for internal job postings. In order for your current position to be held for your return, qualified employees must have supervisory approval to participate and have been in their current position for at least six months.
