Under general supervision, services and inspects vehicles and equipment; assists journey-level mechanics; and performs related duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The level and scope of the knowledge and abilities listed below vary according to the I versus II levels distinguished in the previous section.
Knowledge of:
Basic operations and maintenance of vehicle systems and components; use and maintenance of basic shop, hand and power tools, such as sockets, wrenches, torque wrenches, pneumatic wrenches, greasing tools and other related tools; types and grades of lubricants, coolants, brake, steering and other fluids used in automotive and equipment servicing; use and maintenance of tire changing and balancing equipment; safe working practices and safety equipment related to the work; federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to the handling and disposal of hazardous waste and clean air requirements.
Ability to:
Operate basic shop, hand and power tools, vehicle hoists and jacks; operate tire changing and balancing equipment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; keep basic logs and records.
Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined is:
Fleet Service Worker I – One year of responsible vehicle servicing experience.
A Fleet Service Worker I may be considered for advancement to Fleet Service Worker II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class. Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria are established jointly by hiring authorities and the Director, Human Resources and are described in a separate document.
Typically, a Fleet Service Worker I is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within a 6–24-month period, depending on an individual’s prior experience and progression in performing the full range of Fleet Service Worker II duties as described in the established performance criteria.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid Nevada commercial driver’s license, Class A and appropriate endorsements, or the ability to obtain one within six months of date of hire, and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
