About this role

Responsible for maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of various fleet and equipment. Performs troubleshooting, preventative maintenance to ensure operational readiness across all campus locations. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

What a day of a Fleet and Equipment Technician looks like:

  • Inspects and performs preventive and regularly scheduled maintenance of vehicles and equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.

  • Repairs, rebuilds, and replaces major systems and components including engines, transmissions, drivetrains, braking systems, HVAC, suspension, and onboard computer/control systems.

  • Utilizes computerized diagnostic equipment and fleet management software to accurately identify faults, document repairs, and track asset performance and maintenance history.

  • Operates the electrical and mechanical systems and components found on engine-powered vehicles and equipment.

  • Refurbishes, fabricates, maintains, and repairs equipment and fleet vehicles.

  • Prioritizes and schedules work orders while implementing quality work standards and procedures. Accurately logs and updates service requests and provides status updates as needed.

  • Conducts safety inspections and ensures all fleet assets and equipment to meet regulatory compliance and institutional safety standards.

  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, parts usage, and labor within the fleet management system.

  • Maintains current knowledge of emerging automotive and technologies, including electric vehicle systems and alternative fuel platforms.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED with additional training related to the position

  • One year of related experience repairing engine-powered vehicles and equipment

  • Diagnostic experience in automotive trades

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Skilled in:                

  • Automotive and equipment repair

  • Analyzing relevant information to solve problems

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

Ability to:

  • Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery

  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet operational goals

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Adapt to evolving automotive technologies

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

  • Motor Vehicle A/C certification obtained within 90 days of employment

  • Valid Florida driver’s license

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install, or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install, or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds

  • Reach and grasp objects

  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Stand for extended periods of time

  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

  • Identify and distinguish colors and shades of color

  • Communicate information orally and in writing

  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication

  • Proofread and check documents for accuracy

  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury

  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environments due to extreme temperature, noise levels, and other conditions

  • Operate a motor vehicle

  • Work a fluctuating work schedule

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $21.44/ hr, however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
