Job Description:

Airbus Commercial is looking for a Fixed Asset Accounting Manager to join our team in Mobile, Alabama.

In this role you will be responsible for the comprehensive management, coordination, and reporting of Asset and Capital Expenditure (Capex) activities across Airbus Americas, Inc. and subsidiaries. This role ensures the integrity of the fixed asset register and provides technical expertise in the classification of expenditures (Capex vs. OpEx) to support the expanding industrial capacity and Airbus footprint across the US.

Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities

1. Asset Governance & Expenditure Classification (40%)

  • Technical Advisory: Partner with operations and project teams to provide technical guidance on the recognition of assets. Lead the analysis of project costs to ensure correct classification between Capital Expenditure (Capex) and Operating Expenditure (Opex) in accordance with IFRS and US GAAP.

  • Lifecycle Management: Manage the Assets Under Construction (AUC) process to ensure costs are captured, classified, and placed into service according to company policy.

  • SAP Stewardship: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and perform monthly reconciliations of depreciation values within SAP.

  • Compliance Leadership: Drive governance for IFRS 16 (Lease Accounting) and serve as the primary focal point for external auditors regarding fixed asset inquiries and inventory stock-taking procedures.

2. Financial Reporting & Statutory Compliance (30%)

  • Reporting Integrity: Ensure the accuracy of the asset register and the robustness of management reporting in compliance with IFRS, US GAAP, and the Airbus Group Accounting Manual.

  • Close Management: Lead month-end closing activities for the asset scope, assisting in the preparation of consolidated financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, and Cash Flow).

  • Tax & Regulatory Support: Manage deliverables for the Tax Department under the framework of the transfer pricing agreement between European and US authorities.

  • Audit Preparation: Provide necessary documentation for annual audits, transfer pricing studies, and valuation assessments.

3. Process Optimization & Strategic Support (30%)

  • Forecasting Collaboration: Support Capex Managers and Site Controllers in periodic forecasting, budgeting, and the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for depreciation and capital spending.

  • Internal Controls: Maintain department internal controls (ICSA), including the coordination of scheduled physical inventory counts and scrap campaigns.

  • Systems Innovation: Identify and implement SAP enhancements to standardize the intercompany closing process and improve the operational effectiveness of asset management.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:  

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Master in Business Administration, Accounting skills, and Finance preferred

  • Additional accounting/financial studies preferred (CPA, MBA…)

  • Good knowledge of SAP logistics and finance modules preferred 

Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience in finance, auditing and/or accounting in a commercial or industrial environment involving tight deadlines

  • Demonstrated leadership in resolving or escalating issue resolution, team building, training and team support.

  • Good communication skills, rigor, conscientious,

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks, build strong cross functional relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization,

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • SAP, Google Suites, Excel

Travel Required: 

  • 10% Domestic and International

Eligibility:

  • Eligible for employment in the US

Physical Requirements: 

  • Onsite or remote:  60% onsite and 40 % remote.

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings. 

  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms. 

  • Speaking:  able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts. 

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs at least several times a month.

  • Lifting:  able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs at least several times a month.

  • Pushing / Pulling:  able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools at least several times a month.

  • Sitting:  able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer. 

  • Squatting / Kneeling:  able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor. 

  • Travel:  able to travel independently and at short notice. 

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents):  able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required:  Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site. 

  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
