REPORTS TO: Fitout Manager

SUPERVISES: Fitout Supervisors

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the implementation of all production schedules, monitoring and maintenance of schedules in conjunction with Supervisors.
  • Responsible for the preparation of material take-offs.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of adequate stock levels in conjunction with ensuring that all materials are ordered and delivered in a timely manner that does not impede the progress of the project.
  • Ensuring correct construction procedures are adhered to in compliance with Austal Quality Assurance Standards.
  • Responsible for sourcing and distributing information to Supervisors.
  • Responsible for liaising with and directing outside contractors.
  • Accountable for monitoring resource levels and the distribution of these resources.
  • Assisting with maintaining safe working practices and good housekeeping in all areas and ensuring Austal’s Safety Policies and regulations are followed.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all supervisors under their control are complying with the Ten Fundamentals of Supervision (SUP214).
  • Provide input on a weekly basis at production meetings regarding:
  • morale
  • safety
  • product improvement
  • cost savings
  • weight savings
  • milestone achievement
  • Ensure all timesheets are processed and allocated daily.
  • Ensure task cards are being used daily and filled out properly.
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are understood and followed, particularly in relation to:
    • Health and Safety
    • Quality Assurance
  • Provide motivation, maintain morale and minimize confrontation.
  • Review and recommend on pay rates in conjunction with supervisors to Manager.
  • Maintain succession plan within department. Identify key personal and implement training programs as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years supervisory experience in marine and/ or industrial construction required.
  • Able to perform all tasks associated with Fitout Supervisory position.
  • Must have working knowledge of marine joiner/carpentry, insulation, HVAC and paint.
  • EVMS (Earned Value Management Systems) experience a plus
  • Display a good working knowledge of planning and monitoring.
  • Ability to work under pressure and timelines.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and other software products.
  • Physical Requirements. Standing: 25% Sitting: 15% Walking about: 60% Lift and Carry: 50lbs. for 10% of the day
  • Hazards: Climbing ladders, accessing confined spaces.
  • Working Conditions: General shipbuilding environment, loud, dusty, hot/cold.

TOOLS: Familiar with use and function of power and hand tools.

DIRECTION EXERCISED: Shall direct the work of supervisors as pertained to tasking out crews in conjunction with schedule and budgets.

DISCRETION EXERCISED: Interpretation of blueprints, adherence to schedule and budgets.

LIASES WITH: All other trades and departments, Engineering, Purchasing, Project Management, Planning/Scheduling, and Human Resources staff.
