Fireman 2nd Class (Night Shift)

The primary responsibilities of this position are to proficiently perform the duties associated with the second shift (6pm to 6am) operation of the Boiler House.

Other duties and responsibilities of this position include boiler equipment maintenance and repair as well as training of other boiler house Firemen, and any other duties assigned to support the needs of the business.

Comply with all quality, safety, attendance and work-rule requirements.  Will perform other duties including, but not limited to, material handling, cleaning, painting, sweeping, shoveling and garbage clean up.

Due to the nature of this position, moderate physical activity is required, and employees may be required to frequently lift heavy objects.  

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for firing boilers on scheduled shift and maintaining operating pressure for plant operations.
  • Perform daily water treatment as applied to boilers and cooling towers including treatment analysis.
  • Cleaning of oil and gas burners, oil strainers, and smoke meters, as required to comply with DEP/EPA air pollution monitoring regulations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of equipment through Maximo maintenance management system.
  • Perform daily/per shift monitoring of all Boiler House systems equipment.
  • Required to monitor and record all air, electric, fuel and water meters into computer files.
  • Responsible for maintaining daily documentation pertaining to shift ownership.
  • Responsible for performing monthly analysis, inspections and inventories.
  • Will possess ability to communicate with Outside Contractors, Service Technicians, Operations, R&D, Quality, and Engineering.
  • Responsible for daily housekeeping activities throughout the Boiler Room.
  • Will be required to perform other general duties as assigned by supervisor.
