Major Duties:

  • As a Fire Logistics Dispatcher your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Provides a wide range of fire dispatch, logistical and administrative support functions. Coordinates with other dispatch organizations on mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of resources. Responds to resource requests from other dispatch offices. Operates and/or directs the operation of various dispatch telecommunication systems. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. Provides technical guidance, orientation, and training to other dispatchers.

Qualifications: In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification requirements listed below. Minimum Qualification for the GS-06 level (must have one of the following): One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: experience providing fire dispatch, logistical and administrative support functions; and responding to resource requests using fire-related computer applications. -OR- Successfully completed one full year (18 semester hours) of GRADUATE level college education related to the work of this position or in a field directly related to this position that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Transcripts must be attached to application package. -OR- An equivalent combination of experience and education. Transcripts must be attached to application package. Minimum Qualification for the GS-07 level (must have one of the following): One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: experience performing and directing others in dispatch related to wildland fire suppression activities; responding to resource requests using fire-related computer applications; and providing technical guidance and training to other dispatchers. -OR- Successfully completed one full year (18 semester hours) of GRADUATE level college education related to the work of this position or in a field directly related to this position that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Demands: The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency/intensity levels with irregular breaks and mealtimes. Must be able to cope with the pressure of meeting timeframes and changing priorities. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an office setting. During peak activity, increased radio traffic, numerous ringing phones, and conversations result in high noise levels, which require high level of concentration to perform duties.
