Duties and Responsibilities
This classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on department needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
Demonstrates fire suppression competencies by safely operating modern firefighting tools and equipment, recognizing fire behaviors, and building construction factors, and applying appropriate suppression tactics in accordance with departmental SOPs and nationally recognized standards.
Applies risk-based decisions making to identify, isolate, and mitigate hazards during emergency and non-emergency incidents.
Performs core firefighting skills through regular drills and live or simulated training evolutions, demonstrates proficiency in hose deployment, water supply, ventilation, forcible entry, search and rescue, and exposure protection.
Conducts patient assessments and provides emergency medical care at the first responder level by utilizing evidence-based protocols, effective communication, and scenario-based practices in both classroom and field training settings.
Inspects, operates, and maintains fire apparatus and equipment before, during, and after training evolutions to ensure operational readiness and safety.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
