The expected hiring range for this position is:

Fermilab has an excellent opportunity for a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician to work in the Fire Department. Under the supervision and direction of the Battalion Chief and Fire Lieutenant, performs firefighting duties, emergency medical care, hazardous material and technical rescue response, fire prevention inspections, and other tasks.
What your day-to-day as a Fire Fighter at Fermilab will look like:
Performs firefighting duties, emergency medical care, hazardous material response and mitigation, and fire prevention inspections.
Responds to emergency calls throughout the Laboratory and offsite as requested.
Combats and extinguishes fires, administers emergency medical care, and assists in mediating HAZMAT incidents plus provides tunnel rescue services and maintains associated specialized equipment.
Performs fire prevention tasks including building and valve inspections, testing of alarms and sprinklers, and maintenance of fire extinguishers and hoses.
Maintains and operates emergency response apparatus, including fire vehicles and ambulances.
Participates in ongoing training, drills, and upkeep of firefighting equipment.
Assumes role of acting Lieutenant in the absence of senior officers.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
Essential Competencies and Attributes for Success:
Minimum High School Diploma, (AA in Fire Science, preferred) or GED
Illinois State Certified Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter (BOF)(FF 2)
Must provide proof of a valid (unexpired) Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) at the time of the interview
Emergency Medical Technician B (EMT-B)
Illinois State Certified Hazardous Materials Operations Level
National Incident Management Systems (NIMS), ICS 100-200-700-800
Valid Illinois Driver’s License and Real ID (either CDL or non-CDL, Class B)
Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a post-offer Firefighter Medical physical
Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Confined Space Operations certification desired
Rope Operations certification desired
Fire Apparatus Engineer (F.A.E.) certification desired
Good communication skills, both oral and written, along with the ability to interact with others in a courteous, professional manner.
Experience with computer-based programs
Hazardous Material (HazMat) Technician desired
Must be able to abide by the Union Contract as necessary and required
Must be able to work overtime/mandatory overtime when asked
Other duties as assigned.
