Fire Extinguisher Technician

This position is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of portable devices. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing, and performing fire extinguisher checks in accordance with fire code; identifying system deficiencies; and preparing accurate and timely inspection reports.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install or service fire extinguishers in commercial and residential buildings

  • Test and repair fire extinguishers already in place

  • Perform inspections to ensure fire extinguishers are installed according to code

  • Complete detailed inspection reports, documenting any issues

  • Report results of work completed in an accurate and timely manner

  • Protect and maintain company equipment

  • Inspect and maintain the truck and all related equipment, submitting repair requests as necessary

  • Operate warehouse equipment, including vehicles, following all safety regulations and manufacturer instructions

  • Work in accordance with company safety procedures, including driver safety and proper use of PPE

  • Respond to emergency service calls

  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace

  • Perform other duties assigned by management

Education/Qualification

  • A high school education or equivalent preferred

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with fire extinguishers and related life-safety equipment

  • Experience with NFPA 10 and NFPA 17A required

  • Knowledge of NFPA standards preferred

  • Troubleshooting skills

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Must have a clean driving record and reliable transportation to/from the office or job site

  • Must be flexible with scheduling, including occasional evenings, weekends, and out-of-town assignments

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of life safety

  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations and the ability to interpret, apply, and explain them

  • Ability to review documents for completeness and accuracy

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports

  • Ability to recognize and report deviations through inspection programs

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions

Other Duties

  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and occasionally lift/move heavy objects

  • Requires physical abilities such as balancing, climbing, grasping, hearing, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, repetitive motion, speaking, and visual acuity
