Overview

The Fire and Rescue Senior Public Health Nurse performs as a lead nurse to provide health care services to citizens of Dallas or to City Employees.

Essential Functions

Performs senior level nursing procedures and lab procedures to ensure that lab quality control guidelines are met and provide other on site lab or health care assistance; provides specific health guidelines for fire and rescue.

2 Leads, instructs, and trains public health nurses and other department staff members on basic nursing procedures or changes in preventive health policies to ensure staff is informed.

3 Transcribes and coordinates the distribution of lab and x-ray results to all clinic sites ensuring efficiency, transparency, and accuracy while adhering to privacy and safety policies.

4 Manages and coordinates patron flow and interacts with health care providers, day care centers, and homeless shelters to facilitate the maximum efficiency and effectiveness of the health care services.

5 Inventories, orders, and distributes supplies and vaccines for daily operation; establishes permanent health records for patients seen in clinics.

6 Participates in various meetings and conferences related to public health issues to effectively respond to community and client needs.

7 Prepares monthly activity reports for submission to manager or other agencies.

8 Interacts, engages, and communicates with community agencies, health fair coordinators, and the business community to respond to requests
for immunization services and provide education to employees and other individuals.

9 Provides case management services and coordination between various health care providers and services to ensure patient's needs are being met.

10 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of principles and procedures of general and public health nursing.

2 Knowledge of the functions of the health and social agencies.

3 Knowledge of physical, nutritional, and developmental risks in individuals.

4 Knowledge of methods of responding to individuals and families from various socio-economic groups.

5 Ability to apply nursing principles in a fire and rescue capacity.

6 Ability to teach and instruct nurses in the principles of public health nursing or specialized fields of study.

7 Ability to understand and carry out technical, detailed instructions.

8 Ability to perform a variety of health screening tests, e.g. vision, hearing, child development

9 Ability to make oral presentations.

10 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

11 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Biology, or heath care related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) years of general nursing and public health, disease prevention, health education, and community wellness initiatives.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Texas



Salary Range

 

$29.99 - $36.82
