A caregiver in this role will work on first– or second-shift schedules, depending on the candidate’s preference, with shifts from 7:00am - 3:30pm or 3:30pm - 11:30pm. 

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform inspection, testing and commissioning of fire and life safety systems (FLS). 

  • Assure compliance with hospital policy/procedures, local, state, and federal codes. 

  • Maintain and safely use all assigned materials, tools, and equipment, protecting patients, visitors, and caregivers. 

  • Effectively interacts with employees, contractors, and end users as applicable when performing assigned tasks, positively adapting to all changes relative to the scope of work as presented. 

  • Thoroughly documents and maintains records of inspections and work performed pursuant to departmental policies and warranty/vendor requirements. 

  • Follow FLS standard operating procedures. 

  • Utilizes electrical and electronic testing devices to inspect, test, maintain and repair fire alarm systems for full operation, including all peripheral devices associated with fire alarm systems. 

  • Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, and advise on system malfunctions and operational requirements. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • State of Ohio Certification for Fire Alarm Detection through the Department of Commerce/Division of State Fire Marshall 

  • State of Ohio Certification for Automatic Sprinkler and Standpipe Systems through the Department of Commerce/Division of State Fire Marshall required or attainable within 2 years of employment 

  • State of Ohio Certification for Fire Pumps through the Department of Commerce/Division of State Fire Marshall required or attainable within 2 years of employment. 

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License (VDL) 

  • Four years of experience in electronics and fire alarm systems (two years of which must have been in an institutional setting)   

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Fire Protection Engineering Technology/Fire Alarm Systems certification through National Institute for certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) 

  • Experience in commercial/industrial settings 

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands require full body motion including ability to perform work while bending, stooping, stretching, and climbing ladders.

  • Requires dexterity and strength sufficient to operate required tools, machinery and equipment.

  • Typically required to lift and carry machinery and/or equipment weighing 25 to 100 pounds and/or assist with lifting weights exceeding 100 pounds.

  • Requires color acuity sufficient to distinguish color-coded signage and systems.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
