The primary purpose of this position is to provide fire alarm communication center dispatch services to the base populace by answering emergency 911 calls and initiating responses with appropriate personnel and equipment.

Major Duties:

  • Provides emergency 911 and dispatching services. Determines the nature of the emergency in accordance with established guidelines. Provides medical response dispatch services to callers. Incumbent verifies the location and call back number for a medical patient and determines the severity of the emergency situation in accordance with 97 Medical Group (MDG) approved protocols. Maintains maps, checklists and charts, including automated programs. Operates and maintains telephones, automated data processing equipment, printer's, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices Installed in the dispatch center. Prepares and maintains reports and records relating to emergency responses. Performs Civil Engineer Service Call operations.

Qualifications: CONTINUED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. In accordance with (IAW), Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs. Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period. Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, Dispatching Series 2151. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes comprehensive body of operational knowledge of the communications equipment, alarm equipment and systems, and radio usage and procedures. Extensive knowledge of vehicle dispatching procedures, resources and capabilities, as well as detailed geographic knowledge of the jurisdiction served.Knowledge of standard fire protection and prevention theories, techniques and practices relative to various types of emergencies including hazardous material situations and medical emergencies. OR EDUCATION: Completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of 911 and emergency vehicle dispatch operations. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval, and input of data. A qualified typist is not required. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus, and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
