    The role is accountable to ensure quality and timely deliverables of the financial processes for our Japan Business Unit, as part of Manulife Finance vision of creating a Global Finance Shared Services Team.

    We are a Global Finance Shared Service Center consisting of highly motivated and experienced professionals committed to excellence in customer service.

    Role and Responsibilities

    Reporting to JP Finance Team leader, the Financial Analyst is primarily accountable for conducting moderately complex financial, accounting and economic analyses, including journal entry preparation, detailed calculations and internal and external reporting. Duties may include assisting in the preparation of journal entries by compiling, analyzing, and substantiating financial transactions as needed, reconciling accounts as requested, assist in month end/quarterly/year end close process and reporting. assisting in the annual audit, including year-end schedule and financial statement preparation and assisting with the preparation of tax and regulatory reports

    Responsibilities include the following:

  • Technology / Administration support:
    • Administration Support – Responsible for IT access rights submission and follows-up for Finance members including but not limited to  new joiners/transfer, support with engagement activities including Sharepoint, Yammer, Email communications.
  • Accounting Operations – Responsible for performing advanced accounting activities such as creating standard and non-standard journal entries, reconciling complex general ledger accounts. Also, responsible for analyzing financial results, detecting aberrations and providing commentary with respect to specific areas of focus.
  • Treasury Operations – responsible in ensure successful payment process in Finance through the Lawson Accounts Payable and Cash Book system.
  • Management Reporting – to support needs of different internal or external parties.
  • Others - Makes recommendations for process improvements and compile ad hoc accounting and analyses for other business partners

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English and Japanese written and verbal communication skills.
  • 4+ years of working experience with progressive responsibility within the Accounting and management reporting field.
  • Accounting University degree in accounting, finance, or business management. CA/CPA qualification, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Japanese generally accepted accounting principles (“JGAAP”) and International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) are preferred.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel (i.e. mastery of excel formulas and pivot tables is a must; VBA is a plus). Proficient in MS Office suite including Outlook, Word and Power Point.
  • Keen attention to details and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in a shared service set-up and transition experience is an advantage
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills to interact and establish relationships with the international business units. Ability to work effectively across cultures
  • Ability to makes sound decisions in the absence of rules and /or in complex situations
  • Ability to work in ambiguous environment and adapt to change while managing time and workload with aggressive timelines.
