Managing "systemically important" infrastructure for both CDS and CDCC, our team utilizes sophisticated models and a matrix-based defense structure to mitigate credit, market, liquidity, and operational risks. We collaborate across the industry to protect our partners and uphold Canada’s G20 financial commitments.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Financial Risk Management, the Financial Risk Analyst (Rotational) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Canada’s capital markets. In this 12-month program, you will bridge the gap between theoretical risk and market reality, supporting daily risk reporting while developing the next generation of risk management tools.

The Rotational Experience

This 12-month contract is strategically split into two 6-month rotations, offering a 360-degree view of the post-trade ecosystem:

  • Rotation 1: CDS (The Canadian Depository for Securities) Focus on the risk complexities of depository and settlement services for Canadian equity and fixed-income markets.

  • Rotation 2: CDCC (The Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation) Deep dive into central counterparty (CCP) services, managing risks for exchange-traded derivatives and REPO markets.

This role is hybrid (2 - 3 days/week in the office) - based in Toronto, ON.

Key Accountabilities

Risk Analysis & Intelligence

  • Execute High-Impact Analysis: Produce timely and accurate risk parameters for Equities, Fixed Income, and Derivatives across both Exchange-Traded and Over-the-Counter (OTC) markets.

  • Multi-Dimensional Risk Reporting: Conduct qualitative and quantitative assessments of market, liquidity, and credit risks to generate critical reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Strategic Growth Support: Evaluate risk profiles for new products and initiatives, providing data-driven insights on their impact on existing risk processes.

Process Innovation & Technology

  • Optimize Risk Workflows: Leverage SQL and programming expertise to automate analytics tools, streamlining current risk management processes while maintaining rigorous controls.

  • Policy & Procedure Development: Design and implement new risk management frameworks and maintain procedural documentation to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Support the identification and resolution of production incidents, performing deep-dive analysis to propose long-term technical or business solutions.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • External Partnership: Proactively manage ad-hoc requests and inquiries from external partners, including Clearing Members and Regulators.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Information Technology, Risk Architecture, and Operations teams on high-priority projects that modernize the risk management landscape.

Must-Haves:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of professional experience, with direct exposure to risk management (Equities, Fixed Income, or Derivatives).

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL (or other database query languages) and a strong command of data visualization and reporting tools.

  • Mindset: A proactive, independent self-starter with meticulous attention to detail and the interpersonal skills to thrive in a highly collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Advanced Education: A Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Finance, or Engineering).

  • Programming Toolkit: Proficiency in Python, Matlab, or VBA.

  • Industry Tools: Experience navigating Bloomberg terminals.

  • Communication: Bilingualism in French and English (oral and written) is an asset.

Salary Range: 35/hour-38/hour CAD
