An exciting opportunity is available for a Financial Planning and Analysis Lead to join the Finance Department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the position

The Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Lead is accountable for the Institute’s financial planning, forecasting and management reporting, ensuring the delivery of high-quality financial insights that support strategic and operational decision-making. The FP&A Lead is responsible for translating financial data into meaningful insights, enabling Executive, Board and operational leaders to understand performance, assess risks and opportunities, and support evidence-based decision making. A key focus of the role is to establish a single source of truth across performance and long-term forecasting in a complex multi-lab model. The role also drives continuous improvement in finance systems, models, processes and reporting capability. The FP&A Lead provides guidance and direction to FP&A team members, ensuring high standards of financial analysis, reporting quality and data integrity are maintained across all deliverables.

  • Ability to quickly establish respectful and productive working relationships.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment, work independently and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes

Knowledge and skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; CPA/CA preferred.

  • Extensive experience in financial planning and analysis within a commercial, not-for-profit, research, or academic environment.

  • Strong financial modelling capability, including development of cost models and scenario analysis.

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and finance business partnering.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in modern ERP systems and financial planning tools such as Workday and Workday Adaptive Planning will be viewed favourably.

  • Knowledge of major Australian research funding bodies such as NHMRC, ARC, and MRFF will be viewed favourably.

Terms of appointment

This position is a full-time fixed-term role available until August 2027. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 8 ($118,099 - $127,828). Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
