Financial Crime Compliance & Governance Specialist

 te tūranga | About the Role 

As a Financial Crime Compliance & Governance Specialist, you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver high quality governance, reporting, and advisory support across all Financial Crime risk classes. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our frameworks, policies, and processes meet regulatory requirements and industry best practice. 

 

Key duties include: 

  • Ensuring the AML Programme suite is maintained in line with regulatory requirements  

  • Provide expert guidance across all Financial Crime risk classes, partnering with stakeholders to strengthen compliance and governance.  

  • Support key governance activities, including internal risk reporting, framework reviews, strategy updates, and policy development.  

  • Prepare drafts for Committee and Board reporting to ensure clear and accurate visibility of Financial Crime matters.  

  • Manage Correspondent Banking Due Diligence responses, including questionnaires and information requests.  

  • Contribute to regulatory reporting, including AML/CFT annual reports to the RBNZ and other regulators.  

  • Conduct control testing and assessments  

  • Assist in delivering and maintaining Financial Crime frameworks, policies, programmes, and standards across Westpac NZ.  

  • Work with business units to maintain procedures, ensuring alignment with policy and control frameworks.  

  • Review product and channel risk assessments  to identify and manage Financial Crime impacts.  

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, law enforcement and external agencies to support compliance obligations.  

  • Act as a change agent, enhancing Financial Crime awareness through targeted communications, briefings, and support for training programmes. 

 

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?  

  • Knowledge of the financial sector and risk management processes (2+ years).  

  • Demonstrated understanding of governance requirements,  including reporting and policy-related work (2+ years).  

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability, able to navigate complex situations. 

  • Advanced analytical, risk identification and problem solving skills.  

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, with Financial Crime experience preferred.  

  • CAMS or a risk based professional qualification (preferred but not essential).  

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy. 

  • Able to prioritise effectively in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.  

  • Demonstrated initiative, with the ability to simplify complex issues and deliver practical solutions. 

  • Emotionally intelligent and collaborative, showing respect for others’ perspectives while building strong relationships.
