A Financial Counselor supports the organization’s mission to provide quality healthcare to our community through prompt and accurate program screening; assistance with program enrollment, identification of affordable healthcare, and payment plan options in order for our patients to be able to afford the cost of care that they need.

Job Description:

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Accepts and processes financial assistance referrals from multiple internal and external sources
•    Gathers information and completes program application(s)
•    Submits and follow up on application(s)
•    Enters information in the Financial System for billing
•    Answers basic billing questions for patients
•    Maintains a strong working knowledge of community based programs and resources 
 


The Ideal Candidate will have:

•    Knowledge of Revenue Cycle functions, strongly preferred
•    Knowledge of State of Maine eligibility guidelines for Medicaid, strongly preferred
•    Excellent and demonstrated communication skills including telephone, listening, written and oral
•    Some medical terminology, preferred
•    Ability to prioritize and manage referrals and follow up
•    Works well independently and as a member of a team
•    High school diploma or equivalent preferred
