Job Description Summary
The Financial Clearance Coordinator will determine eligibility for third party payor benefits and obtain initial financial authorization when required. Notifies patient, family members, and clinical area of third party coverage authorization decisions pertaining to reimbursement of patient care. Identifies alternative payment options and refers appropriate cases to the Care Manager.Job Description
The Financial Clearance Coordinator:
Researches and verifies financial coverage for planned services prior to patient scheduled appointments.
Determines whether planned services are covered by patients' benefit plans and communicates limitations or denials to patient and families.
Completes authorization forms including documentation pertaining to pre-certification, plan authorization, and/or obtaining primary care physician referrals.
Researches and Discusses financial options with patients and families for services not reimbursable by a third party payors.
Refers cases to outpatient Care Managers or Social Workers when patients are unable to pay for services not covered under a third party payor
Forwards completed forms and documentation to appropriate internal departments including Patient Financial Services.
Documents financial clearance information in SRAlab's Information System, updating demographic, insurance, funding and medical information, as needed.
Communicates information to the outpatient clinical team or SRAlab inpatient Care Managers as needed.
Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reports directly to the Supervisor, Financial Clearance
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Minimum educational requirements high school degree or equivalent, Associate College degree preferred.
Prior registration/preregistration experience or related experience.
Knowledge of health care delivery services and the field of rehabilitation medicine preferred.
Working knowledge of Windows operating environment and Microsoft Office software applications.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of Institute personnel, physicians, insurance representatives, and other internal and external customers.
Analytical skills necessary to ensure complete and accurate documents and forms.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
Pay and Benefits*:
Pay Range: $17.00 per hour - $29.50 per hour
