Work Location: This position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, pursuant to the College’s Work Location Policy.

About the Position
The Financial Aid Counselor is the primary contact in helping students and families navigate the complex financial aid process. The Counselor manages certification and disbursement of the Federal Direct Student Loan Program, and prepares financial aid files for allocation and administration of aid.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Process loans in accordance with federal guidelines and timetables
  • Track entrance counseling, promissory note completion, and exit interviews for all federal loans
  • Handle incoming and returning international student emails and correspondence
  • Handle returning international student awarding
  • Perform batch transmissions through EdConnect
  • Ensure that all files meet regulatory, policy, and procedural compliance for federal, state, private, and Haverford aid programs
  • Serve as liaison with banks and lenders in regard to student loan programs
  • Handle inquiries regarding file preparation, file management, and student and parent loans
  • Other duties as assigned

Line of Report: The Financial Aid Counselor reports to the Director of Financial Aid. Some projects will be supervised by the Associate and/or Assistant Director of Financial Aid.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of Financial Aid experience

Professional Competencies

  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, other agencies’ regulations, policies, and required procedures
  • Experience with college financial aid software systems, preferably PowerFAIDS and PeopleSoft
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and diplomatically
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Experience with Institutional Methodology
