Position Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific has an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and driven qualified Financial Accountant to join the Global Business Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a progressive centre of excellence in an organisation considered a global leader in its field.

The position is in the Record to Report (RtR) team of our Global Business Services (GBS) Shared Service Centre. The team provides financial controllership in the region for three of the Thermo Fisher Scientific groups – Clinical Research Group (CRG), Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Group (LSLPG), Special Diagnostics Group (SDG) and Analytical Instruments Group (AIG). We are responsible for a large number of entities reporting a total of over $10 Billion of revenue per year.

The successful candidate will own the US GAAP financials of a number of legal entities, working closely with the Accounting Operations team to ensure financial accuracy and timely deliverance of close activities. You will be expected to demonstrate yourself as a knowledge leader in the Record to Report team; able to investigate and resolve accounting problems. You will be a highly motivated and detail oriented individual with excellent communication, coaching and organisational skills relevant to the role. You are a self-starter, technically astute, and have the ability to prioritise and follow through in a dynamic, corporate environment. You will be the key point of contact for our internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the US GAAP end to end financials across a number of North America legal entities
  • Analyze profit and loss account and balance sheet trends and variances
  • Perform review and approval activities at month end, including high risk journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review general ledger activity, researching and correcting account discrepancies
  • Perform balance sheet deep dives and present outcomes to stakeholders
  • Key point of contact for internal stakeholders
  • Oversee the timeliness of financial reporting for the North America region
  • Run monthly business reviews with stakeholders
  • Proactively participate in PPI (Practical Process Improvement) initiatives, including Gemba Walks, Just Do Its, Kaizen events, and daily Tier management
  • Complete a variety of special projects as and when requested

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (CPA, CPI)
  • Able to organize and prioritize multiple complex situations
  • Accuracy is required in performing all aspects of the role
  • High level of proactivity to drive continuous improvement
  • Deep technical accounting expertise
  • Strong investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Comfortable communicating with and presenting to various stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP (Desired but not crucial)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact at various levels inside and outside the organisation
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Working knowledge of ERPs (Desired but not essential)
