The Opportunity:

As the Finance/Budget Manager for the Extension Community and Economic Development Program Unit (CED), you will support faculty, programming and “center” activities. You will be required to independently manage fiscal budgets at the Program, unit and faculty levels, and assist the Director in all aspects of faculty support, including annual reviews, professionalization, operations, and promotion/tenure processes. This involves communicating effectively at all levels of the University system and exercising independent judgment, decision-making, initiative and tact in performing all duties as well as maintaining strict confidentiality. In this role, you will also provide fiscal management support, as needed for constituent elements of CED.

CED is home for 20 faculty members with Extension appointments, and provides operational support in addition to managing faculty success and advancement. CED also hosts two “centers:” the Division of Governmental Studies and Services and the Metropolitan Center for Applied Research and Extension.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. Overtime eligibility will be determined based on final salary placement. 

Monthly Salary: $4,942.10 - $6,890.89 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications. The full salary range for this position has a minimum monthly salary of $4,942.10 and maximum monthly salary of $7,569.55. The Hiring Department’s expected hiring range is $4,942.10 - $6890.89 monthly.

Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge, skill and demonstrated ability in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, or equivalents.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with the Office of Research Support and Sponsored Program Services on grant applications and budget preparation and maintenance.

  • Experience supervising full and part-time employees.

  • Experience interpreting laws and regulations as they apply to intergovernmental contracts and research projects.

  • Workday experience.

  • Experience in Washington State University's (WSU) promotion/tenure process.

  • Experience and skill in preparing cost projections for grant applications.

Location: This position is located on the WSU Pullman campus in Pullman, Washington. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with the requirement to work from the Pullman office a minimum of two days per week or as otherwise required by the unit.
