Finance Process Improvement Specialist

Melbourne Full time

Want to bring ideas to life?

You’re in the right place. At Aurecon, we shape the future of cities, environments and organisations through design, engineering and advisory excellence. Behind every successful project is a strong, efficient, and resilient finance function - and that’s where this role makes a difference.

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

We’re looking for a Finance Process Improvement Specialist to join our Finance Transformation team on a contract basis. This is a hands‑on, delivery‑focused role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail of how finance processes work, uncovering inefficiencies and risks, and shaping practical, evidence‑based improvements which leverage and optimise the user experience and technology available. Duration of the role is dependent on business needs and desired outcomes of the improvements. Success in this role will be measured through the identification and delivery of prioritised finance process improvements that reduce inefficiency, strengthen controls, and support more scalable, future‑ready finance operations. Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’:

  • Facilitate workshops and conduct one‑on‑one sessions with a broad range of stakeholders to capture and analyse finance processes and procedures, including both system and non‑system activities
  • Identify pain points, inefficiencies, control gaps and areas of financial risk, supported by clear evidence and data
  • Map current‑state and future‑state processes to inform clear, practical and implementable recommendations
  • Identify opportunities for process simplification, standardisation, automation and AI augmentation, ensuring solutions are fit‑for‑purpose and pragmatic
  • Develop a prioritised set of process improvement initiatives that deliver tangible value across finance services and the broader business
  • Build shared understanding and obtain stakeholder buy‑in by clearly articulating benefits, trade‑offs and recommended sequencing of improvements
  • Partner with stakeholders to support the delivery and embedding of agreed improvements, where appropriate

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement, business analysis or transformation roles, ideally within a finance or shared services environment
  • Strong capability in process mapping, documentation and optimisation (current and future state)
  • Experience working with ERP systems, with Workday Financials highly regarded
  • Proven ability to analyse complex processes and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Strong facilitation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • High attention to detail with a strong documentation discipline
  • Experience working with finance and financial processes, controls and reporting
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline preferred

Attributes & Approach

  • Practical, analytical and improvement‑focused mindset
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and across complex stakeholder environments
  • Confident influencing without formal authority
  • Structured, curious and outcome‑oriented
  • Able to balance efficiency, governance and control requirements

How will your future be shaped by us?

At Aurecon, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful and visible impact across our finance function. This role offers exposure to senior stakeholders, complex finance environments and initiatives that shape how finance operates today and into the future. We support flexible and hybrid working and value collaborative, pragmatic problem‑solving. This position is offered on a contract basis, with potential for extension subject to business needs and performance
