Job Description Summary

Commercial Banking (CB) provides banking solutions to businesses of all sizes across the UK and internationally. With over £140bn of liabilities, £100bn of assets and £70bn RWA the CB division makes up about 1/3 of the Group’s balance sheet. The CB Capital & Balance Sheet business partner team is fundamental in providing insight and analysis to partners across the business to support in managing CB’s capital & balance sheet positions.

two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

Are you looking for a new role, in a high-profile team? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Reporting, Planning and Capital Team in Commercial Banking (CB) Finance.

CB is an integral part of LBG, offering customers a full suite of core banking products, including lending, transaction banking, working capital management and financial markets. It also supports two of the five business units: Business & Commercial Banking and Corporate & Institutional Banking.

CB Finance plays a key role providing analysis, insight and reporting on current business performance. We have c.200 finance colleagues spread across 3 main hubs in London, Edinburgh and Bristol, with a smaller number of colleagues in international offices. We operate as both a control function and partner to the business.

You'll primarily be focused on providing insight, control and partnering on the Balance Sheet and Capital position for the Division. The team operate under a fluid structure, allowing you to build an expert knowledge of balance sheet, capital and funding drivers.

Day to day responsibilities

Working closely with stakeholders across Finance, the business and Group Corporate Treasury (GCT,) the purpose of the team is to understand, analyse and explain the Commercial Banking balance sheet & Capital positions. This includes:

  • Understanding and explaining the drivers of movements across the full balance sheet on a monthly basis.

  • Working closely with Group Finance and Group Corporate Treasury to understand the various drivers of RWAs and capital.

  • Production and presentation of flash, forecast and budget financials for RWA, EEL, LAB and Leverage for both Business Commercial Banking and Corporate & Institutional Banking businesses.

Day to day you’ll:

  • Own production and analysis of monthly MI, continually challenging yourself to improve content of packs. Including presentation of outputs to senior stakeholders across GCT, finance and the business.

  • Use initiative to problem solve where queries come into the team presenting often complex outputs appropriate to the audience.

  • Take ownership of processes operated within the team and make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies.

  • Lead on modelling through quarterly forecasting rounds and ad hoc LV analysis ensuring that projections are in line with business strategy.

What you’ll need

  • Qualified accountant (or qualified by experience).

  • Experience of manipulating large volumes of data and strong Excel skills (including model building).

  • Knowledge of applications such as Power BI would also be a significant advantage

  • Knowledge of core Finance ledger systems.

  • Understanding of the CB business and organisational structure.

  • Credentials that demonstrate working in a time-pressured and dynamic environment with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to develop a broad network across the organisation and collaborate to achieve goals.

  • A genuine drive to improve, and passion for making processes simpler and more efficient.
