What You’ll Be Doing

As a member of the US Finance Governance team, you’ll support the risk management activities for the Finance and Treasury teams. This will include supporting the business in the identification and maintenance of controls, participating in risk assessments, leading remediation of deficiencies, writing of procedures, monitoring business processes, and reporting on business risk outcomes.

This role will liaise with the external auditors, the Finance testing team, as well as the second and third lines of defense on risk programs, gathering evidence and support during exams, and providing subject matter expertise over the processes executed by the Finance and Treasury teams.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Relationship Management - Establish  a collaborative relationship with business partners, external auditors, and 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defense for all matters relating to risk management. Manage relationships with peers or directors, as well as project and initiative managers within the assigned teams.  Represent Risk Governance on Finance and Treasury initiatives.

  • Risk Assessment/Risk Consulting - Work closely with Finance and Treasury partners to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps. Analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes and control gaps. Lead the assessment and recommendation of self-assessed deficiencies to mitigate risk exposures and control gaps. Acts as the risk and controls Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing expert advice to Finance partners. Participate in business, governance and regulatory projects, typically medium to highly complex initiatives, to identify risk and control issues. Participate in Internal Audits, Compliance Exams, AML/ CEEP, and GORM Reviews for Finance regarding audit scope review & finalization, requests for information, fieldwork support and potential deficiency management.

  • Risk Subject Matter Expertise – Understand and communicate requirements related to Operational, Market and Liquidity risk measurement and mitigation processes. Be able to translate risk requirements into the appropriate processes, assessments, metrics and controls. Identify efficiency opportunities within existing processes whenever possible.

  • Control Framework Design/Execution/Management - Understand and communicate Control Framework requirements to Finance and Treasury partners to ensure awareness, understanding, and impact. Lead the completion of CIBC Control Framework requirements, including Risk and Controls Self Assessments (RCSAs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs)/Metrics. Act as the Maintenance Officer for all controls (Operational, Financial  and Regulatory ).  Develop & maintain reporting on the governance & controls environment for Finance and Treasury teams.

Who You Are

  • You demonstrate experience in understanding of business processes to evaluate whether the controls in place are appropriate to mitigate the related risk, and recommending enhancements for existing controls or proposing new controls when necessary. Extensive knowledge of risk management, audit & regulatory compliance principles, practices, policies and procedures. 

  • You demonstrate experience in financial accounting, reporting, Treasury and/or Tax processes and requirements. A CPA/MBA/CIA/CFA is a plus.

  • You have a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • You have minimum ​4 - 10 years’ experience in financial service industry.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $85,000 - $110,000K for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
