Finance Control Analyst

The Finance Control Analyst will support accounting, reconciliation, and suspense account management for Manulife Bermuda. The role ensures the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial transactions, balances, and reporting across operational and corporate finance activities. Key focus areas include payment flow reviews, suspense and balance sheet reconciliations, inventory and commission balance management, operations controls, and transaction auditing—delivered in close collaboration with Operations, Corporate Finance, and Systems teams.

Position Responsibilities

Payment Flow & Daily Controls

  • Review and monitor end-to-end payment flows to ensure transactions are processed accurately and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform daily suspense account variance reviews, including timely investigation, research, and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Identify irregularities, control gaps, or unusual transaction trends and escalate issues as needed.

Monthly Reconciliations

  • Prepare and complete monthly reconciliation of suspense balances to the general ledger.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including Balances Held, to the general ledger.
  • Conduct monthly inventory reconciliations between the administrative/operational systems and the general ledger.
  • Ensure reconciling items are properly documented, aged, and resolved within established timelines.

Quarterly Corporate Finance Support

  • Prepare and review quarterly account standings in coordination with Corporate Finance.
  • Support quarterly balance sheet preparation and analysis for Corporate Finance reporting, including variance analysis and explanations.
  • Provide accurate schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for management and audit review.

Commissions & Inventory Oversight

  • Manage and reconcile balance sheet and balances held related to commissions, including agent balances.
  • Perform inventory reconciliations related to commissions, ensuring alignment between operational systems and the general ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve commission-related discrepancies in partnership with Operations and Business stakeholders.

Operations Control & Systems

  • Execute operations control activities to ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Track and manage system issue flows, including identification, documentation, escalation, and follow-through to resolution.
  • Partner with IT and Systems teams to analyze transaction impacts resulting from system issues or enhancements.

Audit & Transaction Review

  • Perform auditing and review of transaction types to confirm correct accounting treatment and system posting logic.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing reconciliations, analyses, audit schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen controls, reduce manual adjustments, and improve reconciliation efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in reconciliations, balance sheet management, and operational finance.
  • Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, suspense accounts, and transaction flows.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Corporate Finance, IT, and Audit teams.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and manage expectations and shifting priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and solve complex transactions/situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong PC skills with intermediate to advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot, VLook up);
  • Familiar with PowerBI, Infor, Smartview
  • Ability to learn new technologies and tools quickly.
  • Work effectively in a changing environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in life insurance is a plus.
  • CPA is a plus but not required.
