Finance Associate

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a Finance Associate to join our Accounting team in Mumbai. This role will support various accounting functions across the company such as fund accounting, management reporting, tax reporting and analysis, trading P&L reconciliation, and financial statement preparation. 

The ideal candidate for this role is a Chartered Accountant (CA) with a background in financial services and a desire to leverage their strong understanding of Indian GAAP (IndAS) and SEBI regulation in our Mumbai office.  

Responsibilities

• Perform daily P&L, cash, and position reconciliations, including overseeing commission accruals and payments utilizing a vendor-based clearing system
• Perform month-end closing procedures, including financial statement preparation, cash and position reconciliations, entering income/expense accruals, and preparing capital allocation schedules
• Test and utilize automated tools for monthly and on-the-fly reconciliation and profit reports, including utilizing Unix commands, SQL queries, and running scripts in Python
• Assist with external audits, including preparation of financial statements and footnotes under Indian GAAP
• Collaborate with our Tax team to provide information and data necessary to complete various tax return filings, and assist in preparing filings 
• Perform cash and collateral management functions, including submitting various bank opening documents, rebalancing cash accounts, updating cash flow projection, monthly bank reconciliations, and capital fund inflow registration
• Preparation of net worth certificate, financial statements, and directors’ report submissions at bi-annual/annual intervals to the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI)
• Prepare other ad hoc reporting as required by SEBI, banks, and exchanges
• Assist in the infusion and repatriation of capital
• Assist in the creation and design of automated reports requested by management
• Work with relational databases and set up reports using simple SQL queries

Qualifications

• Chartered Accountant (CA)
• Bachelor's degree in accounting and an excellent understanding of Indian GAAP
• Understanding of US GAAP is a plus
• 3 - 5 years of experience in accounting with an entity regulated by SEBI
• Strong Excel skills, VBA/SQL experience preferred
• Big 4 or large international firm experience a plus
• Excellent cross-functional communications skills, including fluency in English
• Meticulously detail-oriented
• Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task
• Willingness to travel periodically to HRT’s NYC office for training
• Ability to take calls during US business hours, arranged in advance, as needed
