Finance Assistant
12-Month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: A competitive salary from £25,760 – £32,200 depending on the experience you can bring

We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, curious, and ready to grow their career in our Finance Operations team.
In this role, you’ll join a supportive team that helps ensure Aegon UK’s financial transactions are accurate, well controlled, and completed on time. Our team looks after cash processing, payments, financial reconciliations, and contributes to month end reporting. You’ll be involved in a variety of finance tasks, building strong foundations in accounting and financial controls.
You’ll receive full support and coaching to help you grow confidently into the role.
Key Responsibilities include:
Deliver day-to-day finance operations activity to deadlines
Perform daily bank, control account and funding reconciliations; investigate breaks and ensure timely resolution
Process and reconcile Accounts Receivable
Record receipts and payments in the General Ledger
Prepare, review and process ledger journals, including accruals and prepayments
Prepare accounts to trial balance level, including balance sheet substantiation and readiness for month-end reporting
Produce MI and reporting for stakeholders with clear commentary
Produce cash books
Support audit requests and queries, coordinating responses and providing clear supporting evidence
Prepare and validate reporting data for HMRC submissions
Analyse ledger balances and transactions to identify anomalies, issues and trends; document root cause and drive timely resolution
Ensure controls operate effectively, evidence is retained, and processes adhere to SOX principles
Identify opportunities to improve processes and controls; take ownership to implement changes and share best practice across the team
Support colleagues through collaboration and knowledge sharing
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
Good grounding in core accounting principles, including general ledger postings, journals, and an understanding of month end processes.
Experience with reconciliations, bank, control account or similar, with the ability to investigate and resolve differences.
Strong Excel skills and the motivation to develop them. For example, working with data (e.g. formulas, lookups, pivot tables) to support reconciliations and analysis.
Experience in a finance or accounting environment. Financial services experience is helpful but not essential; we’re also open to strong transferable experience.
Good analytical and problem solving skills
A collaborative, organised approach with a focus on accuracy and control with the ability to manage deadlines, communicate clearly, and work effectively as part of a team.

We’re serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place. We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we’ll put in 9%. If you decide to contribute more, we’ll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that’s 7% from you and 13% from us).
