Job Description
The Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) is a senior technical leader responsible for the ownership, design, and delivery of mission critical enterprise platforms supporting core financial and operational processes. This role combines hands on full stack engineering with solution architecture, technical governance, and program leadership to ensure scalable, reliable, and high quality systems.
The individual operates with a high degree of autonomy, leads small teams through complex initiatives, and serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for complex business logic, financial calculations, and system integrations. The role has direct impact on financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and long term strategic initiatives across the enterprise.
This role is intended for a senior technical engineer who combines deep engineering expertise, architectural ownership, delivery excellence, and the ability to lead small teams. The Staff Software Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining platform stability while driving modernization and cross‑team collaboration that delivers long‑term enterprise value.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Delivery Leadership
Own end‑to‑end delivery of large, complex platforms and multi‑phase initiatives.
Drive technical planning, execution, risk management, and stakeholder alignment.
Ensure delivery timelines, system reliability, and business outcomes are consistently met.
Platform & Architectural Ownership
Define and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and architectural quality.
Serve as an escalation point for complex technical, architectural, and production issues.
Act as SME for enterprise applications and business‑critical calculation engines.
Own complex financial workflows supporting reporting, reconciliation, and close processes.
Ensure scalability, performance, resilience, and long‑term maintainability of core platforms.
Hands‑On Engineering & Modernization
Remain a hands‑on contributor, designing and implementing critical components and services.
Lead modernization initiatives aligned with firm‑wide technology strategy.
Design and build distributed, cloud‑native services supporting high‑volume, time‑sensitive processing.
Drive performance optimization, reliability improvements, and operational efficiency.
Cross‑Team Technical Leadership
Mentor engineers and raise overall technical quality across teams.
Deliver reusable tools, frameworks, and architectural patterns adopted by multiple teams.
Collaborate with engineering, business, and data partners to align solutions with enterprise strategy.
Influence technical direction and outcomes without direct authority.
Qualifications
Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.
The successful candidate must have:
Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent).
9+ years of experience in full stack software engineering with enterprise systems.
Strong expertise in AWS and cloud‑native architectures.
Proven experience in system design and solution architecture.
Experience building and maintaining calculation‑heavy, business‑critical platforms.
Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and performance optimization.
Experience integrating modern platforms with legacy systems.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives with minimal oversight while remaining hands‑on.
